Claremont City Council Special Session
The Future of the Bernard Field Station
The
golf course is assured for 25 years, the field station operation
isn't and the door is opened for further development. The development
"master plan" is assailed and the development process
defended. Everyone but the janitor is there from Claremont University
Center to defend the project. Legal muscle for both sides is displayed
and the city is in a major defensive posture.

This
meetings highlights are Mayor Rosenthal's report on a conversation
with Gil Garcetti re:Landrum. A lengthy debate and decision on the
future of Cruise Night. Also citizen response to the city's 9 point
police plan, Congresman Drier facilitates communication with the
Department of Justice re: Landrum, Sunrise Development officials
again appeal city's decision to charge the development park fee's
previouisly waived and continuing
citizen commentary on the Landrum
affair.

Planning Commission
This
planning commission session proposes sweeping
changes in Claremont's land use and development codes. Although
the Agenda refers specifically to the properties at 250 and 450-456
W. San Jose Ave., the changes proposed
in Attachment A include significant changes to the the Village and
overall commercial districts as well. New permitted uses in the
Freeway commercial and industrial districts include sales of Guns
and Ammo, Pawnshops,
Indoor Swap Meets and Check Cashing. New Village district permitted
uses include micrbreweries, theaters, political campaign offices
and mixed residential/commercial use of existing structures.
